Job Description
Job Summary
The Mechanical Engineer in Shipbuilding is responsible for the installation, testing, maintenance, and supervision of mechanical systems onboard ships and marine structures. The role includes managing propulsion systems, HVAC, piping, pumps, engines, and auxiliary machinery during ship construction, repair, and commissioning activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise installation and commissioning of mechanical equipment onboard vessels
- Review mechanical drawings, layouts, and technical specifications
- Coordinate with production, piping, electrical, and structural teams
- Monitor machinery alignment, equipment fitting, and system integration
- Ensure compliance with marine standards, safety regulations, and class requirements
- Conduct inspections, troubleshooting, and performance testing of mechanical systems
- Support dry dock activities, repairs, and retrofitting projects
- Prepare technical reports, work schedules, and progress documentation
- Coordinate with vendors, subcontractors, and clients for mechanical works
- Ensure quality control during fabrication and installation activities
